Wedding favours, do you, don’t you…? As a stationery designer I should really push these as we could create all manner of products for favours, but as a rule I am not too into favours, sorry for all you sugared almond lovers out there. The only thing I generally offer is our Cleartouch name blocks which double up as place names as they are a rather special keepsake for the guest to take home, I’m all for things having a multiple use where appropriate and possible.

One reason for this is, I don’t like frivolous waste and weddings are most definitely culprits of a throw away society, another reason I do vouch for what we do being in the ‘luxury’ end of the market as I believe most people take home the place cards we make as they are special, think how many get thrown away every weekend with all the weddings in the UK…..not to mention all those laminated paper numbers…and sugared almonds.

My point, not a new point, but one I would like to highlight and support and offer our clients, charitable favours. Some years ago I attended a friends wedding and instead of mindless rubbish for favours, there on my place name card was a pin, a charity pin, one that is still on one of my jackets to this day. The bride and Groom bought 120 charity pins for their own personal reasons, and I thought it was fantastic, why spend a pound on almonds when you could’ve given it to a charity, plus I quite I like the pins you get, they bring a childhood nostalgia when you may have collected items like them!

This has been happening for years but not many people know about it, I suggested it to another friend who is getting married this summer, and again for them it was a very relevant notion, they went on to find these badges by Jenny Packham for Cancer Research, fabulous to see one of our leading bridal designers getting behind such  good cause…the thing letting it down, those  cards they go with, surely to be binned in the end too. How great would a Jenny P pin look on one of our Hummingbird place cards, perching on a wing?! So why not do it, buy some pretty place cards and team with a charity pin? 2 jobs done and money extremely well spent.

If budget is an issue, and you can not justify buying pins and pretty place cards, we have also created place cards which don’t hold a pin, but on the back we’ve created a little graphic that indicates a donation to a charity has been made on your behalf from the bride and groom, what a lovely touch.

Now here’s where I would love your help…….

I have since written to cancer research to see if we can team up with them and the Jenny Packham badges to create really special place cards/favours, and to no avail, sadly they don’t see the merit, I’ve had a measly and disappointing response and when I replied to their shut down I have had no e mail back at all, shame. I for one think they could be a big hit with the right publicity, if you agree please do leave a comment so I can go back to cancer research and show them the maths….
