Something for the weekend – Hull city of Culture 2017

Hull city of culture 2017

Hull is not only the city of culture for 2017, but it’s where our main paper manufacture, GF Smith have their factory, so we have a particular interest to find out what’s happening in Hull this year and understand what it’s all about from it’s industrial side to it’s cultural festivals….

In this opening season, we welcome the world to Hull.

‘We’ll challenge preconceptions and show people what Hull is really made of and the many incredible things Hull has made for the world. From art to industry, Hull has long inspired great people and great ideas.’

‘The spirit, the stories, the talent of this city will all be evident in our first season. We’ll share with everyone what the people of Hull have known all along – that this city has contributed enormously to ideas that have changed and enriched the world.’

There are so many events to choose from, check out the website here and our highlight is…..

As the brainchild of lens-based artist Quentin Budworth, Hullywood Icons has recreated iconic moments from Hollywood films with the people of Hull and the East Riding. The still images will be exhibited prominently throughout the city as projections featured in the City of Culture opening event, in the suburbs of Hull and in Beverley and Bridlington in early January 2017.
