When Charlotte and Edward came to us for their wedding stationery we were a bid giddy with excitement, tales of blush hues, with copper foil, laser cutting illustrations, a dog called Toffee and the sublime venue choice of Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in the South of France, it was a designers dream brief!
You will have seen Charlotte and Edward’s stationery suite featured in our main bespoke wedding stationery section within our website, so it’s just wonderful to see the images of the actual day, I think you’ll agree it does not disappoint. Here Charlotte shares with us their story and how they styled their beautiful wedding day.
Can you tell us a brief story of your journey so far as a couple?
We have known each other for a number of years…since we were 16 in fact. We met through a mutual friend at a birthday party and remained close friends ever since. After deciding to take the leap from friends to something more, we never looked back and realised we were always the ones for each other. After three years of dating, Eddie decided he wanted us to get married and wasn’t prepared to wait even a few hours. He waited until I was out for the day, filled our London home with flowers and candles and waited for me to walk in the door that evening. It was simple, but perfect. He proposed that evening with a Haribo ring and we celebrated with a cheeseburger.
Why did you choose your venue and did you have a ‘theme’ for your day?
My parents (Charlotte’s) live in the South of France and it has always been a home to the both of us. We always knew we wanted a destination wedding and wanted to make more of a weekend out of our special day for all our friends and family, so there was nowhere else in the world for us to get married in our minds. We knew we didn’t want a beach wedding but wanted to get married outside in a garden, surrounded by colour and an enchanting setting. We found The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and it ticked all our boxes. It was the only wedding venue we looked at because it took our breath away from the moment we arrived – grand but intimate.
What did you want your stationery to convey?
We had a colour theme of blush pink which ran through from the bridesmaid dresses to the groomsmen accents and flower arrangements. We of course wanted to highlight this in our wedding stationery so choosing the colour was key as well as the materials we used.
We had lots of ideas to begin with but we ended up combing delicate laser cutting with a bronze mirror to give the invitations a two-dimensional effect. For the invitations we wanted to capture the beautiful setting of our venue so showcased this through a laser cut design of our venue with a silhouette of us as well as our dog Toffee.
For the escort tags, it was important we made this a focal and interactive point for the evening so we suspended etched bronze mirrored tags off a pergola.
From the invitations to the menus, our stationery oozed decadence, delicacy, with a contemporary feel. Everything from the invitations to the escort tags to the menus were personalised with a bespoke touch to ensure all our guests had a memory to take home from our special day.
Would you consider framing your stationery now you have had your big day?
It already is! It’s a work of art and a beautiful memory of what really was one of the most special days of our lives. It’s hanging pride of place in our living room.
(here it is, how lovely is that! ^)
How did Cutture help in your wedding planning journey?
Cutture were a huge help in setting the tone, theme and style for our wedding. When wedding planning, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with different themes and ideas but from the moment we sent the invitations, we wanted to continue to the same standard and tone set by Cutture.
Sometimes conveying your ideas in your head is the hardest thing but Cutture were able to interpret our vision and put our wishes into reality.
Which other wedding suppliers did you use?
We used Roni Fleurs for our floristry
Potel & Chabot for our catering
Riviera Organisation for sound & lighting
We would like to thank Charlotte and Edward so much for letting us share images of their truly beautiful day, we so very rarely get to see our stationery ‘in situ’ and it really helps us to keep doing what we are doing!
